The botanical Garden and Natural History Museum

Just off the main road C711, on the right hand side, you will find an oasis for the senses - the Botanical Garden of Sóller. Immerse yourself into the flora of the Balearic Islands. Enjoy its fragrance, its flowers and the hum of its insects.

The objective of the Botanical Institute is the protection of rare and/or endangered plant species of the Balearic Islands and the entire Mediterranean. In addition, the Institute has set the goal to pedagogically familiarize the visitor with the plants of the Balearic Islands. The Botanists try to be ahead of time by starting education at an early age. So you will meet school classes from all over the island as regular visitors of the Botanic Garden. Regular photo contests, presentations and other events are organized.

Here we can find the majority of the wild flora of the Balearic Islands. The gardens` focus lies on endemic species (only able to survive in a specific environment), as well as endangered and restricted-range species. The plants are arranged in a number of confined areas, according to their natural environment, where each species grows in its typical habitat (e.g. stream banks, rocks and cliffs, shady oak forests, mountain top habitats and alike).

All plant species predominantly used by mankind are grown here and in addition to ornamental and medicinal plants we also find the fruit and vegetable plants most commonly used on the Balearic Islands. Interested and attentive visitors will even find plants from other Mediterranean islands and the Canary Islands.

Specifically laid out paths lead through the garden letting you walk freely without necessity of a guided tour. It is advisable, though, to orientate yourself by the pre-defined routes as they match the seasons and its species in bloom?.
